Product design students turn a destructive tree into class projects
The industrial design version of turning lemons into lemonade: After an oak tree collapsed on the University of Oregon campus, destroying the Provost's car, the school harvested the oak and handed it off to their product design students, tasking them with turning the wood into useable furniture pieces.
"It makes me feel much better about my car that it went to serve the educational mission of the institution," said UO Provost James Bean.

Bemz Loosefit

Hello again! Many of you wrote in after my last post a few moments ago asking what type of linen I was looking for at Bemz so I thought I’d show you! I am looking at the loosefit collection though I realized my sofa (Karlstad) that I want to put in the new guest room is not a sofa that Bemz has pre-made loosefit covers for. I’m so sad! But wait! There is an alternative…
“The loose fit slipcovers are manufactured using an exclusive linen from Belgium, a country with a centuries-old tradition of flax cultivation and processing. Rosendal Pure Washed Linen is pre-washed to give it that soft, beautiful, vintage-like look and is available in Absolute White, Unbleached, Medium Grey and Sage Brown. Also, these new linen fabrics are available to order in the usual made-to-measure style of slipcover for all Bemz models as well as fabric by the meter”.
Made to order? Oh this could be expensive so I’m going to write to them to see if they have some ideas for me….
I think the oatmeal one is divine…. I can see lots of John Derian plates and vintage mirrors hanging above it with some lovely black accents!
P.S. I think they used the home of Susanne as a shoot location, don’t you? Lovely!

Bemz + Designers Guild

I did a double take today as I was browsing the Bemz website for a new slipcover for my sofa. They’ve just teamed up with Designers Guild to bring Tricia’s signature color and style to the land of IKEA! I’m not sure they’re all my taste really, I am more an understated pattern girl myself when it comes to sofa upholstery, but for those bold souls out there these slipcovers may be a dream come true.
….now back to finding my very un-bold linen slipcover.
